10 Do’s And Don’ts When Buying Doggy Doors

While purchasing a pet door and installing the same one should scan through the below-mentioned points for making a correct decision:

Do a study of available pet doors: The market is always filled with different kinds of products and the same is also true for pet doors, but all types of doors are not suitable for one’s pet so investing in an appropriate door for the pet is necessary.

Do train the pet dog to use the doggy doors: The pet dog needs to get used to pushing out through the door. Initially, one should hold the flap of the doggy doors and use toys to lure the pet in and out through the door.

Do invest in a quality door for the pet: Flaps are generally used in the construction of pet doors but more advanced and better quality versions of pet doors are present and it is wise to choose a good quality door.

Do take security issues into account: A pet door that is not very secure can invite the attention of burglars who might try to use that door for gaining access into the house.

Do consider a chip based door: Electronic door for pets that will allow the pet to go outside through the door if he is wearing the specific chip in its collar is the best way to prevent strays and also to prevent other pets in the house from going outside unattended.

Once a person is sure about the things that they need to verify while purchasing a pet door it is advisable to know about the things that should be avoided while acquiring or training the pet to use the doggy door:

Do not purchase a wrong sized door: It is important to know how to acquire a suitably sized door for one’s pet. In this case, the height of the pet is to be measured for choosing the door.

Do not thrust the pet through the door: It should be understood that the pet is new to this kind of experience. Dragging, pushing or pulling the pet to make it move through the door might become counterproductive and the dog will simply refuse to go near that door.

Do not set up the door in a place which is unknown to the pet: Choosing the door for installing a doggie flap door is important because if the door is fitted in a place where the dog doesn’t go at all then it is useless to install that door.

Do not purchase blindly: Pet doors or doggy doors should be acquired after doing exploring alternatives on the Internet regarding the different kinds of pet doors present in the market. Simply buying a door without knowing anything about the quality or size is not a sensible idea.

Do not fit the door at the bottom of the main door: The contraption for letting pets go outside should be fitted near the bottom of the door but one should place the door at least five or six inches above the floor otherwise it will allow other animals to enter the house.
