About our cat club...
Thank you for visiting our new
web site. The following will tell you a little something about
our cat club and its members. We hope you will take a few minutes
to also read about our annual Cat Show at
the State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, New York. It is held the last week in
September..
Club Objectives
Established in New York State in 1972 as a non-profit organization,
Salt City Cat Clubs primary purpose is to advance the interests
of the owners, fanciers and breeders of cats and to promote the
welfare and improvement of all cats.
Our club is affiliated with The Cat Fanciers
Association, Inc. (CFA), a non-profit organization also dedicated
to the welfare of cats. Founded in 1906, CFA is the world's largest
registry of pedigreed cats.
We strongly encourage spaying
and neutering all cats that are not being used as part of a selective
and viable breeding program. While a few of our members raise
and show purebred cats, all of us have in common that we love
cats of all shapes, sizes, colors and "purr-sonalities."
Club Activities
Each year our Club holds a public cat show to promote interest
and knowledge of the various breeds of cats and to generate interest
in all cats and their well being. We are proud to say that over
80% of our cat show profits are donated
to area animal shelters or to carefully selected organizations
that do research in cat health, behavior and/or nutrition.
Since 1995, we have been fortunate
to have as our show sponsor the Friskies Pet Care Company. Friskies supports
our objectives by providing education on cat nutrition, cat training
and other matters of interest to cat owners. The CFA & Friskies
cat shows are extremely popular with the public and attract thousands
of visitors each year.
Individual club members may foster
a stray cat(s) in their home while trying to locate the owner
or find a new home for the cat. The club pays to test the cat
for infectious diseases, and if the cat is determined to be an
adoptable stray, the club will pay to have it altered and vaccinated
against rabies and the core feline diseases before releasing
it for adoption.
In addition, our club may also
vote to financially support neuter/spay programs or offer other
assistance to cats in need as the situation arises. Many club
members volunteer at area cat shelters or other cat welfare organizations.
Membership
Salt City Cat Club exists to benefit cats. Potential members
must love cats and agree to work to promote the welfare and improvement
of all cats and to support the club's objectives. We meet once
a month on a Tuesday night in a local restaurant between 6:30
and 8:30 p.m.
