Is your cat show material?
Before
deciding whether or not to show your household pet, there are
three major points to consider: (1) the health and condition
of your cat, (2) its temperament or personality and (3) its appearance.
These are the things the judges will be looking for when he or
she decides what cats will receive awards.

If your cat isn't in top condition and free of any signs of parasites
or illness, he will not stand a chance in the show ring. If he
hides every time someone comes to the door, or does not like
to be picked up, he probably does not have the temperament needed
to be a show cat.
Remember, he will be handled during the show by several judges
who will be strangers to him. If he is not accustomed to having
others see and touch him, he may become frightened, act out his
displeasure and possibly become disqualified or injure a judge.
If he is unhappy, it will probably not be a pleasant experience
for either of you.
In addition,
your cat must be at least 4 months old. Kittens under 4 months
of age are not allowed in the show hall. If your kitty is 8 months
old or over, he or she must be altered (spayed or neutered) to
qualify for entry in the household pet division. Please
note that CFA show rules do not allow cats to be shown that have
been declawed.
So, your cat
is glowingly healthy, loves everybody and is the most beautiful
cat you and your friends have ever seen. How do you go about
entering him in a cat show? What must you know in order to prepare
him for showing? We recommend you click on and read thoroughly
